Kavya Madhavan bags Ujala Asianet Best Actress Award 2010

Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal reigned supreme at the popular Ujala-Asianet Malayalam film awards 2009 announced in Thiruvananthapuram Sunday. While Mammootty bagged the 'Millennium actor award', Mohanlal was named best actor for his role in Ividam Swargamanu.

Mammootty had more reason to cheer as his blockbuster Pazhassi Raja was adjudged the best film. Renjith was named best director for Paleri Manickam, which also stars Mammootty.

The names of the awardees were announced Sunday by Asianet Television officials. The award ceremony will be held here January 18.

Kavya Madhavan was selected as the best actress for her role in Banares while Prithviraj was chosen as the Youth Icon for the year.

Christian Brothers

Director Joshy’s Christian Brothers will finally go on floors on January 11. Starring Mohanlal, the film was in a soup earlier because the Producers’ Association had asked them to bring their budget down to three and a half crores.

Along with Mohanlal, it stars Suresh Gopi, Kavya Madhavan and Dileep. It will be produced by Subair and AV Anoop. Sibi K Thomas and Uday Krishna have written the script of the film.

A lot of people are eagerly waiting for the multi-starrer movie Christian brothers for the stars in it and the veteran director producing it. Most prevalent stars like Mohanlal, Dileep were signed for the movie. It was also considered as a come back film for Kavya Madhavan. The movie had tough time right from the pooja. Initially Prithviraj was announced to an important role in the movie, but he showed no interest, so was later withdrawn from the role after which Tamil actor Arjun was assigned for the same role.

It is now rumored that he also withdrew from the project and that the director is in search of a fresh face for the role. Not giving us time to guess whether it’s got to do with the role offered or the tight schedules for the heroes, the next problem for the shooting has popped up already. It seems that the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) is against making of the movie “Christian Brothers” since the budget is considered very high. The KFPA president Sabu Cheriyan said that the Malayalam film industry is spending too much money on films and so there are some strict rules that are inculcated. KFPA has decided that hereafter the budget of a Malayalam movie should not exceed 3.5 crores and the shooting should be completed in 45 days. Not just this, but the KFPA has also announced that the maximum usage of film roll should be 60,000 feet. The director Joshy and producers Anoop and Subair are trying hard to convince the KFPA to complete the movie and they are sure about commencing the shooting by November 18th.
